We Answer Every One of Your Questions on the 2026 Chevrolet Trax

If you’re shopping for a compact crossover that fits tight parking spots, delivers solid fuel economy, and comes loaded with safety tech, the 2026 Chevrolet Trax checks those boxes.

The Trax carries over from its 2024 redesign, retaining the modern styling, updated tech, and practical interior that made it a strong contender in the subcompact SUV segment. It’s designed to be an efficient, easy-to-live-with daily driver that doesn’t compromise on essentials.

What Powers the 2026 Trax

Every Trax uses the same ECOTEC 1.2L Turbo engine – a three-cylinder unit producing 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough for confident city driving and smooth highway cruising, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission sending power to the front wheels. There’s no AWD option in the 2026 lineup.

Fuel economy sits at 8.5 L/100 km city and 7.6 L/100 km highway, competitive for a small crossover with front-wheel drive. The engine is also E85-compatible, offering flexibility at the pump.

How Much Space Do You Actually Get?

The Trax seats five and offers 1,532 litres of cargo space behind the first row – enough for groceries, hockey bags, or camping gear. With rear seats up, you get 725 litres for daily errands. The rear seat splits 60/40, allowing you to fold one side for longer items while carrying passengers. The cargo area features a low liftover height for easy loading.

What Safety Features Come Standard?

Every Trax includes:

  • Chevy Safety Assist – a suite covering collision warning and automatic braking features including Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • Following Distance Indicator
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • IntelliBeam auto high-beam assist

The Driver Confidence Package adds Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and Rear Park Assist – standard across all trims.

Other standard equipment includes six airbags, tire pressure monitoring with Tire Fill Alert, Teen Driver (for setting speed and volume limits), and OnStar Basics with Automatic Crash Response.

How Do the Trims Differ?

The Trax lineup includes four main trims: 1RS, LT, 2RS, and ACTIV.

1RS features 18-inch black-painted machined aluminum wheels, 8-inch touchscreen, 3.5-inch driver information centre, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and Remote Start.

LT upgrades to an 11-inch HD touchscreen, 8-inch digital driver information centre, 6-speaker audio, roof rails, and Keyless Open with push-button start.

2RS adds 19-inch wheels, 8-way power driver seat with lumbar support, and returns to the RS styling theme with high-gloss black accents.

ACTIV features rugged styling, 18-inch black-painted wheels, ACTIV badging, and Titanium Chrome roof rail accents. Tech matches the 2RS.

What About Tech and Connectivity?

The 1RS uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Chevrolet Infotainment 3, including wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Bluetooth streaming, and 4-speaker audio. LT, 2RS, and ACTIV get an 11-inch HD touchscreen and 6-speaker audio.

All trims include two front USB ports (Type-A and Type-C). LT and above add two rear charge-only USB ports. SiriusXM comes with a trial subscription, and all models are OnStar-capable with Wi-Fi hotspot functionality.

The 8-inch digital driver information centre (standard on LT and above) is fully reconfigurable and easier to read than the 1RS’s 3.5-inch display.

What’s the Ride Like?

The Trax uses MacPherson strut front suspension and compound crank rear setup, tuned for balanced comfort and handling. It handles city streets and highways without feeling floaty. Electric power steering is light at low speeds for easy parking and firms up at highway speeds.

The cabin is well-insulated with Active Noise Cancellation reducing engine and road noise. Ride quality is smooth over most surfaces, though larger bumps can feel abrupt – typical for shorter wheelbase vehicles.

Why the Trax Makes Sense

The 2026 Trax is built for buyers wanting a practical, fuel-efficient crossover without midsize SUV size or cost. It fits tight parking spots, delivers competitive fuel economy, and comes standard with comprehensive safety features. Cargo space is generous for the segment, and the interior is straightforward and easy to use.

If you’re looking for a daily driver that handles city life well without compromising on essentials, the Trax delivers.
